Somatics with weights is a system of training that focuses on improving flexibility and strength. This is achieved by releasing slowly out of a muscle contraction rather then continuously coming into a shortening muscle contraction, as with conventional weight training. This is also known as negative resistance or working with the eccentric contracture of a muscle as a primary focus.
The benefits will be enhanced (as with all somatic movements), by working slowly and with awareness. While working with somatics and weights there is minimum repetition, less load and usually only one set. When these principles are applied correctly the benefits include a feeling of spaciousness through out the body, improved muscle tone, strength and increased energy.
Somatics with weights is an intelligent way to workout using the brain and nervous system as a primary focus. It is useful for all genders, body types and ages.
